Dose of Wisdom

18/21: (Sunday) Today marks 18 days along the journey of the three weeks where the crack in everything beckons a polishing the luminal darkness of this time. Yearning emerges for ancient-new psalms as witness to divine presence amidst apparent absence of the universe the more you confront suffering. Such contemplation of this absent presence is expressed here Benjamin Shevili’s recent collection, Poems to Yova (2022):

My beloved light have I opened
Anacreon on the equator
Am I thirsty for water
My golden light like David
The lover so awestruck
& in the Without End as
I have opened a chorus psalm

Questions for self-reflection:

1. Whether it is the Greek poet Anacreon or the Hebrew poet David are invited to teach us as children of God the craft of music, how does suffering open our hearts to the non-dual reality of song and wordless melodies?
2. What ancient-new psalms are already inscribed in our broken hearts that can emerge with deeper listening?
